After much research including the Nexus and Ipad mini - I have decided on the Kindle Fire HD 32Gb and collect it tomorrow from the local Tesco store (as they offer a 10 discount).

The other thing I'd like to mention is that you actually have to install two apps to get the iPlayer running, but if you search for iPlayer ion the Appstore and start with that you'll find that the system guides you through the procedure.
